Hi. I'm interested in talking to folks about lasers especially as they are used in art and music. Message me or find me at the event!

Robin Oppenheimer, one of the speakers at Frayed Wire, just did a presentation in Texas about the West Coast laser shows that were going on about the same time that Andy Warhol was cooking up all sorts of mischief in NYC. So, make sure you connect with her at FW!

I will for sure. Do you have a link for the presentation?

Thanks!

Howdy, does anyone know if it's better to buy or build the closed-loop galvonometers for an XY scanning laser? There are plans to build them (http://elm-chan.org/works/vlp/report_e.html) though it looks tricky to get right. They are sometimes on ebay for ~$1000.

Have anyone tried to build a closed-loop galvonometer?

I bought a OEM type galvo for less than $300 that has two axi. It works well and is pretty easy to setup. It speaks DMX if you want to run it form software of you can use an arduino to control the galvo boards and not use the controller it comes with. I got mine from lasershowparts.com

Thanks for the great info Peter! It looks like lasershowparts.com has some great kits to get started with scanning lasters.
